Get your air conditioning ready

A clean filter, a clear outdoor unit and a tune-up before the heat.

4 min read

The first hot week is when air conditioners fail and repair schedules fill up. A little spring prep helps the system run well and avoids the rush.

Do it yourself

  • Replace or clean the air filter
  • Clear leaves, grass and debris from around the outdoor unit, with about two feet of space
  • Check that the condensate drain line isn't blocked
  • Test the system on a mild day before you need it

Book a pro

Many manufacturers recommend a yearly professional service. Booking in early spring is usually easier than waiting for the first heat wave.

Safety

Turn off power to the outdoor unit at its disconnect before cleaning around it, and don't open electrical panels on the unit.
