Keep pests out in summer

Seal entry points and remove what attracts them.

4 min read

Warm weather brings insects and other pests looking for food, water and shelter. Most prevention is simple and inexpensive.

Prevent

  • Seal gaps around pipes, cables and vents
  • Repair torn window screens
  • Fix leaks and standing water, including in plant saucers and gutters
  • Keep firewood and mulch away from the foundation
  • Store food and pet food in sealed containers

Watch for

  • Mud tubes on foundation walls, which can be a sign of termites
  • Droppings or gnaw marks
  • Wasp nests near doors and play areas

When to call a pro

For termites, large nests or ongoing infestations, use a licensed pest control professional. If you use pesticides yourself, follow the label exactly and keep them away from children and pets.
