The fall safety checks

Alarms, extinguishers, dryer vents and an escape plan.

4 min read

Shorter days and heating season make fall a good time for a home safety check. Many people do it when the clocks change.

Checklist

  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
  • Replace smoke alarms that are 10 years old or more
  • Check the fire extinguisher's pressure gauge and expiry
  • Clean the dryer vent duct, not just the lint trap
  • Practice a home fire escape plan with two ways out of every room
